Brushed Rosie for about half an hour today. Fur everywhere ,should have brushed more.Hoovered up the fur and the innards of the soft toy she destroyed last night.

When I was a kid we lived 2 blocks from the beach in Fernandina Florida. Dad had taken a job and we finally had a house instead of apartments. To celebrate, Dad got drunk and brought home a St. Bernard puppy instead of a Friday paycheck. Naturally he named her Heidi and naturally she grew like Kudzu. But Heidi loved the beach. Just the word would cause her to howl and spin.
One day we come home from school and Dad has built a 2 wheel cart out of our pile of old bicycles. We hitched Heidi up and got her to go where we wanted. Then my step brother says the word. I bet Heidi was in motion before the ch was pronounced. She bolted with 3 of us in the cart and all the way into the surf before we could unhook her. The ride back home was a lot slower.
During the summer it was obvious Heidi was not digging Florida. Dad conned a family of relatives from New York to take her by leveraging free Disney tickets (Dad had a suitcase full of them, mostly E) and they could bunk in the den on the way to Orlando and on the way back so they only had to pay for 1 night. After a summer of keeping her cool with 2 sprinklers I knew she would be happy where it snows. Years later I lived in Albany and realized she was probably very happy with Florida behind her.
