I dont know if "happy" is the right word, but let's commeorate one the biggest battles in Europe during ww2
While most people recall the assault troops landing on the beaches at around 0630 hours on the morning of June 6, let's not forget the paratroops of the 6 British airborne and the US 82nd and 101st airborne that parachuted in behind enemy lines hours before the beaches are stormed.
76 years ago today marked the beginning of the end of the war in Europe

they cancelled d day this year. usually happens at the end of august. i'm fine with it, they close the best beach in the area on one of the last hot weekends of the year so a bunch of old guys can run up a hill and pretend to shoot at each other.

yeah, it's supposedly the biggest d day reenactment in the US. i've watched it a couple times, once up close and once from a kayak on the lake. i really don't get the hype. they have one boat that drops off about 10 guys then goes back and gets 10 more, over and over again. then every time the 10 guys get dropped off, they run across the beach and up the hill. the time i watched it up close, there was only one "death." i know i wasn't there for actual d day, but that can't be very realistic.
there are a couple old military planes that basically fly in circles over the whole thing; that part's pretty cool. and their boat is cool, it's one of those that can pop up and drive on land too. they just need about 10 more of them for it to really work right.

I eat that shiit up. I was supposed to go to a conference thing in Arizona this summer but it got canceled because of covid 19 but it coincided with the 1 time a year the trinity test site in New Mexico was opened to the public. So the plan was to also check that out. Its where they tested the atomic bomb. The heat was so intense it turned the desert floor to glass. I need to see this Most people are like "whatever" but im such a nerd for this stuff. Id watch a d day reenactment all day. But my original message still stands. Long before boats landed onshore, soldiers parachuted into Normandy all alone. That's not as celebrated which kinda sux

Oh don't knock this. I went to one at Shiloh that was incredible. It was in the mid 80s and I was tripping my azz off on blotter. I still remember it in great detail though like all of my 89 trips over the years, I always seem to forget the meaning of life as I'm coming out of it. I just remember how it felt knowing for that brief time. Weird!

That's not as celebrated which kinda sux oh i would love to check out the bomb test site. i wouldn't mind the dday reenactment so much except, like i said before, they close the best beach in the area for one of the last good weekends of the summer. and keep in mind this is ohio, we only have like 6 good beach weekends each year. also, it would be cool if they included parachutes. i don't know why they don't; it could definitely be done safely. and they get literally over 1000 reenactors, so it really is a big thing and i'm not sure why certain parts of it seem to be done on the cheap like that.

Yea a trip wouldn't be right with something like that looming overhead. What's funny is that I drove a company car (the wreck it was, an old Citation) and ended up driving back to Memphis well after the peak, but I still had the edges going. I lived on the edge in the 80s. Many of my trips were just to get off meth or coke. That was the only civil war battle I saw tripping. I saw another reenactment whilst tripping in St Augustine back around 1986. It was so bad my girlfriend told people it was a different malady every time they asked. I think at one point I had encephalitis. The coolest stop on the tour wagon was the old jail, seriously creepy shiit. It was night time and still hotter than all fark. I could just imagine what it was like for actual prisoners in that horrible building. 2 years later she left me because I postponed the wedding. It was putting us deep in debt, her mother and sister pulled out the Emily Post book and the next thing I know we're auditioning a soloist as we assemble a wedding the Kennedy's would envy. It was beyond ridiculous. It went downhill from there and I started doing amphetamines so I could sell enough car stereos and occasional laptops to afford to take her home to mother in Memphis every 2 weeks. So I moved back to Florida, transferred to another Circuit City store and did a lot of fishing and got strung out on crack, again. But hey, it got me off meth!

haha, now i kind of want to go trip in a crowd, and if people question me i can tell them i have covid. Or just simple Yersenia Pestis. But really, today's go-to for mindless shiit is autism. And I admit, I must have seemed like that a few times. Though not so much while tripping. I used to do Quaaludes too.

unfortunately, people won't run away from a guy claiming autism the way they would from a guy claiming covid. they'd probably just go off on a rant against my mom for vaccinating me.

I work with a few former military guys and one thing we have in common is the shipload of vaccinations they gave us. As the years have passed, I can't recall the last time I had a genuine viral condition. I've had food poisoning but not much else. And of course I can't get a list of them, but they lined us up weekly and inoculated us. For all I know I'm immune to Smallpox, Anthrax and Swine Flu. Or worse, I can survive a bioweapon, while watching everyone else I know die off. Probably a quick way to start a war.
