OK, I hadn't intended to make such a thread, but, I just had to when I saw this. In 2002 I uploaded the first chapter of a novel I wrote to hippy.com. It later morphed into/merged with Hip Forums. And for a long time going to hippy.com actually took you to a page on HF for the hippy.com archives. Now that domain is for sale. For $79K I have new respect for the value of a name! I wonder if USHippy.com is available!

Ah well if they sell it, if they can it will go for a nice bit. Probably won’t get what they are asking for it. Not in this market and the domain bubble popped. It will probably be bought in China. They are buying and hoarding donains in hopes that they can control the market, or perhaps control information and some are for this.
We R Here.
Hippyhome
Both are available

well that's just nuts. hippy.com is what led me to hipforums in the first place, back in 2003.
where the fark did they come up with that price tag? they should have tried this 15 years ago, when hippy was a popular fashion, if that was their goal. nobody gives a fark about hippies anymore.

I hate to agree with you, but only because you're right. I realize that what's happening over at HF is a knee-jerk reaction to dwindling dollars. Their whole genre is dying off fast. I was astounded when I discovered The Babe Rainbow, a 60s band founded in 2015. But that was a fluke. A brilliant fluke, but a sole event. There is no reboot for hippies. If anything, we need to adopt Lollapalooza as a model. With a side of Burning Man. But even they are sliding into the slippers and bathrobe mode. But then there's the whole, I happen to be in my late 50s thing. So I won't dare try to assume what the 18-40 age bracket is thinking. And I don't know if I'd want to be on their site, even if I owned it. Greed is not my motivation. I should have come off the hip for vB, but I didn't know what caliber of crew could be counted on to get it going. I was pleasantly surprised we got a whopping 22 members here. Though most of them are lifeboating from HF. I do wonder how the vB site is going, I know they initiated the 7 day trial, but that should be over. I drop what advice I can, I've been dorking with vB for 6 months. The other day it decided to wipe out every employee's title and reset everyone to "Member". Vb support has been useless on the issue. So I have to manually re-punch just under a hundred people's titles. Fuckers. I also learned that if you ask for a rollback, like to the previous day or so, they act like you're asking for the secret to cold fusion. So I am very concerned with the business continuity aspect of the commercial forum I'm dealing with. Today this boards.net nonsense is fewking with me. It won't let me change the banner. No idea why.
